ROCKET REVIEW: THE DEAD DAISIES – “Burn It Down” (CD)

Former THE SCREAM/MOTLEY CRUE vocalist, John Corabi, is like a good old pair of boots. You always know you can count on them, and they keep doing the job after most have broken down. John’s current band THE DEAD DAISIES formed in 2013, and he set out to make the biggest impression on his fans yet. With three jamming studio albums cut previously by the group, including: “The Dead Daisies” (2013), “Revolución” (2015), and “Make Some Noise” (2016), there is no doubt that 2018’s “Burn It Down” is the defining moment of this rock veteran’s career. Lead guitarist Doug Aldrich (WHITESNAKE) simply rips up the six strings with authority on every crushing track. Kicking off with the gutsy “Resurrection”, when the door of my home office exploded off its hinges, I knew right away that John was indeed going to burn all the competition down with his gutsy lyrics, high energy and soul-shaking voice.

On my personal favorite “Rise Up”, Corabi sings about the current struggles we are facing against the oppressive New World Order: “Children it’s time, we all recognize with each passing day, the world’s full of anger and hate a crime, our leaders are sick and malign Like sheep we don’t step out of line”. His prophetic words are guaranteed to send chills down your spine: “Oh why the blind keep on leading the blind, if we wait we’ll run out of time.”

Up next, Crabby absolutely slays it on “Burn It Down”, and drops the hammer on the following “Judgement Day,” which is a definite ‘Come to Jesus’ moment. The momentum does not slow down with track five’s “What Goes Around.” Launching out of the speakers after that is the most rollicking cover of “Bitch” by THE ROLLING STONES ever recorded, that will no doubt get you stomping your feet on the ground and head banging like a wild person.

Continuing the rocking assault, fans are treated to the slowed down but gritty Southern rock ballad, “Set Me Free,” and it definitely sounds like something Ronnie Van Zant would have recorded. Not to be outdone, “Dead And Gone,” keeps the hard rocking headed in the right direction.

“You can have it all if you sell your soul,” Corabi declares in “Can’t Take It With You.”

The rhythm section of guitarist David Lowy and Marco Mendoza on bass is rock solid. Newly added drummer, Deen Castronovo (OZZY, JOURNEY, GZR), definitely helps take the production to another level. The effort concludes with “Leave Me Alone,” and this smoking hot tune features the best guitar solo on the album. Any fan of classic hard rock and heavy metal will want to purchase a copy to add to your collection. Make sure to experience the real thing in person when you want to go out and let your hair down by catching catch this killer band live when they hit your city.
