PANTERA is in the midst of a growing controversy, due to a past ‘racist outburst’ by singer Phil Anselmo coming back to haunt him and earlier this year it culminated with concert organizers in Germany cancelling the band’s appearances.
Keep in mind Anselmo’s other band project was forced to cancel their latest European touring due to the public outcry for Anselmo’s purported racist ways.

Word is that while it is believed that the firing of Phil Anselmo by PANTERA is imminent, the band has taken to their social pages to tease a big announcement set for tomorrow 11/13/2023. Are they going to cancel all future touring? Or is a new PANTERA studio album being announced? A new single being released? A headlining tour in the USA? A new replacement singer for Anselmo?
With respect to the earlier cancellations surrounding Anselmo’s 2016 “White Power” incident, TMD has been tipped off last night that Pantera has secretly been scrambling to try and find a potential replacement for Anselmo – should things continue to escalate and head in the wrong direction (meaning more venues/organizers cancel Pantera bookings) – and obviously the idea is to stop the bleeding, but word is they are having difficulty because nobody wants to take Phil Anselmo’s job, and become associated with the racism perpetuated by Mr. Anselmo’s Nazi-inspired antics. With the fact that the band is making a ton of money selling concert tickets, regardless of the Anselmo controversy growing bigger than ever, this is clearly a desperate “cash grab” by everyone involved, so maybe they are going to try and push Anselmo forward, no matter how much the public hates him and wants him to face some kind of punishment for making the racist outburst.
All of the venues and organizers of festivals who “turn a cheek” and allow the “cash cow” of Pantera with Anselmo fronting the group to book more shows into 2024 with Anselmo behind the microphone is clearly a message being sent to fans devoted to the Abbott brothers that says: “Fuck you. We want to rape the band’s legacy for millions of dollars. We are more superior!”
Anselmo attempted to slow down the public backlash by getting sympathy by announcing he was raped by men and women growing up as a child. Interestingly, he never said anything about this before the Dimebash racist incident. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Anselmo actually tried to defend himself in regards to the incident in which he was filmed at the Dimebash show in Hollywood, honoring murdered Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, giving a Nazi salute and shouting “white power”.
Phil Anselmo in his own words, regarding the racist outburst incident:
“I was raised by a single mother who “dated black men and whatever and they were in my house that I lived in – they spent the night and all that – and all I had was fucking love for them.”
His nanny when he was young, he says, was a “transgender woman who was assigned male at birth named Wilma.” Is this soap opera going to be turned into a Hallmark movie of the week next?
