According to trusted source close to the situation, PANTERA’s troubled lead singer Phil Anselmo has purportedly agreed to donate to the Simon Wiesenthal Center a large sum in the amount of $100,000 to show he is seriously remorseful for his “racist outburst” dating back to 2016 that has blown up into rock’s biggest controversy.
New Zealand and Germany were the first countries this year to lead the ban of Anselmo being allowed to perform any concerts with Pantera, due to the Dimebash incident where he yelled “White power” and flashed the Nazi salute.
After amassing heaps of criticism online, the musician tried to back pedal, claiming that he was joking about drinking white wine backstage and was reacting to the audience who were reportedly taunting him. He also issued a formal apology for his actions, stating that “those who knew him well know that he does not believe in any of that.”
He also stated:
“I am a thousand percent apologetic to anyone that took offense to what I said because you should have taken offense to what I said. And I am so sorry, and I hope you just… man, give me another change to… just give me another change. I love all of you. And anyone, who’s met me, anyone who knows me knows that I love all of you. Bless you.”
Anthrax’s Scott Ian called Anselmo’s actions “vile,” and is the one who encouraged “The Kid” to “show how much he loves everyone” by donating to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a Jewish human rights organization.
By showing remorse and repenting, Mr. Anselmo is headed in the right direction, facing his demons head on, which is a stand-up thing to do, and deserves the rock music industry’s respect.
Anselmo has also agreed to film a PSA for “racial profiling” at a later time next year as part of his punishment, and it’s being said that if he goes back on any of his promise to donate the money and film the PSA he will be terminated from his position in Pantera.
Finally, Anselmo issued the following statement to the rock media:
“Please again accept my apology. I deeply regret my stupid ass behavior and will try to be a better person.”
