Troubled Crue singer Vince Neil cannot catch a damn break.
Despite making a comeback for the ages in 2022, and not falling off the stage during The Stadium Tour, the rotund singer is taking heat reportedly for jamming Crue classics during his solo gigs. Crue founder Nikki Sixx has seen and heard enough apparently.
Fans will recall Neil being notoriously bad during his solo concerts leading up to the launch of the Crue’s big comeback. It got so horrendous at one point the singer fell off the stage, and at a previous show said he can’t sing anymore because he had no voice. News flash. Vince still doesn’t have a voice! This is why he was doing lip synch all of last year with the Crue, according to ousted guitarist Mick Mars, who launched a major lawsuit versus his old band mates for ripping him off and faking out fans. Mars contends that all the other members of Crue but himself are guilty of using pre recorded tape at live Crue concerts, just as TMD’s creator Randy “Rocket” Cody predicted was going to happen.
As the story goes, Sixx really hates when Neil performs the Crue’s songs with is solo band. Talking about this in the past, Sixx told in an interview, “I hate to see Vince out there on tour just playing Mötley Crüe songs, because there is a Mötley Crüe. I don’t understand that. He’s got a couple solo albums.”
Right after the intial posting of this article earlier this year, Vince Neil claims to have contracted Covid-19 and cancelled his RokIsland fest solo appearance. Is that the real reason or did Sixx order the portly singer to stop playing gigs with his solo band?
Going against Sixx’s wishes, Vince Neil played another disastrous solo gig in September/2023 at Blue Ridge Rock festival and the fans brutally tore Neil’s authentic singing (non-lip synch) performance apart with highly critical comments left on TMD’s Facebook page. The troubled singer, “has gained his belly back” and “needs to lip synch” according to fans.
Word is that ticket sales for the Crue’s recently launched World Tour in 2023 got off to a slow start since the big announcement that guitarist Mick Mars was replaced by John 5. Sixx got so pissed off that word leaked earlier than he wanted about Mars being out of Crue that he began going on a tirade about Neil performing Crue songs ‘half-assed and with little to no effort to even sing the song correctly’. The worry is that more crappy Neil solo gigs could jeopardize the planned 2024 North American run.
A rumor started last November claimed that Sixx is actively seeking a possible replacement for Neil, and the name at the top of his list, believe it or not is CREED vocalist Scott Stapp, who has subsequently turned down a full time role singing for the Crue and has opted to instead help recreate Neil’s voice in the studio for their upcoming new album with the help of AI technology.
Until a move is made, technically if Sixx wants Vince Neil to not perform the Crue’s songs live Neil is under a contractual obligation for The Stadium Tour, and making the singer cancel all these planned solo shows makes perfect sense.
Is the fact that Neil played a new solo gig an indication that indeed Neil is going to be fired and replaced again soon?
Neil’s solo band is bassist Dana Strum and guitarist Jeff “Blando” Bland from SLAUGHTER, and drummer Zoltan Chaney.
