MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s Mick Mars might be 71, but the legendary guitarist won’t go down without a fight, according to a Crue insider, who revealed to TMD that the Crue’s founding guitarist was not happy about the ideas being pitched to him, and yes, it’s being said that one of those was the wild idea to bring ex-CREED singer Scott Stapp in to replace troubled singer Vince Neil. The sheer stupidity of Sixx’s ideas and the ongoing retarded ‘Rain Man’ antics of Lee, including the drummer getting caught fake drumming with a “backing track” on The Stadium Tour is what ultimately led to Mick walking away from the band, and standing up finally to Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee, who had long planned to shake up the band’s lineup.
Fans will recall TMD first broke the story big about John 5 replacing Mars nearly two weeks before any other rock news outlets. Sixx did not want to let the cat out of the bag, because ticket sales had just begun for the Crue’s World Tour in 2023, and upon TMD’s article exploding into the biggest story in rock music, that is when Sixx finally admitted that it was true. This was a HUGE victory for rock journalists, who long have got a bad rap from Sixx for not telling the truth and using “click bait” methods to get page views for paying advertisers on their news sites.
One could say this was the first time Sixx had been put in his place. By exposing his diabolical ways, TMD drove the silver stake through Sixx’s blackened heart with the facts.
Even former Crue vocalist John Corabi went on the record recently to express his belief that Nikki Sixx is not being honest about what really happened to Mick Mars. Sixx and the band’s management claimed it was Mars’ advancing age and diseased spine that were forcing him to have to retire from touring, yet drummer Carmine Appice said that Mick is not stopping playing gigs and will be doing more shows with him soon, along with planning to release his debut solo CD.
With the revelation that Crue producer Marti Frederiksen has been working with both Vince Neil and Scott Stapp in recent years and is indeed the industry source who connected the Crue with Stapp in the first place, the Stapp rumor has become massive, taking on a life of its own. Former MTV Headbangers Ball host Riki Rachtman‘s Tik Tok about his disdain for the idea to let Stapp join the Crue itself has amassed over 150,000 views so far.
So, now that Nikki Sixx and Crue management has been caught using deceit with the Crue’s fanbase, the writing is on the wall that the wheels have indeed come off the Crue during what was expected to be a massive comeback with the original lineup.
