Former WHITE ZOMBIE frontman Rob Zombie returns in 2021 with the perfect antidote for the worldwide pandemic, and it’s titled “The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy.” Kicking off with “Expanding the Head of Zed”, the listener is pummeled next by the slamming cut “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition) and “The Ballad of Sleazy Rider,” each featuring the trademark growl of Zombie plus the ultra heavy guitar work of John 5. Up next is “Hovering Over the Dull Earth” and my personal favorite “Shadow of the Cemetery Man.” The momentum does not slow down with the following instrumental gem titled “A Brief Static Hum and Then the Radio Blared.”
A country vibe rocks the strangest tune of the collection “18th Century Cannibals, Excitable Morlocks and a One-Way Ticket On the Ghost Train,” but as totally out of left field as it might sound, it’s actually really brilliant. The morbid nightmare continues with “The Eternal Struggles of the Howling Man,” a no doubt classic, and somehow matched next by the perfectly executed acoustic guitar instrumental “The Much Talked of Metamorphosis.” The latter song almost sounds like something Jimmy Page would have written back in the day with Led Zeppelin. “The Satanic Rites of Blacula” and creepy but short “Shower of Stones” definitely will make the listener “Shake Your Ass-Smoke Your Grass.”
Then you’re hit with “Boom-Boom-Boom”, as Zombie grimly sings ‘the witch is in the room, boom – boom – boom, she’s sliding up the broom,’ followed next by another quirky instrumental jam “What You Gonna Do with That Gun Mama.”
“Get Loose” has one of the heaviest riffs I’ve heard in a quite some time. The album concludes with a final instrumental titled “The Serenity of Witches” and the five minute long “Crow Killer Blues.” Producer Zeuss can add another notch to his belt as one of the best in the metal biz, because I truly think this is Rob Zombie at his finest.
