ROCKET REVIEW: TOOL – “Fear Inoculum” (CD)

TOOL‘s latest studio effort “Fear Inoculum” is their fifth album. It was released on August 30, 2019, via Tool Dissectional, Volcano Entertainment, and RCA Records. It is the band’s first album released in 13 years. Kicking off with the ominous and grim sounding title cut “Fear Inoculum,” fans are treated to the alt metal act’s finest songwriting, followed by the next head trippers “Pneuma” and the instrumental “Litanie Contre La Peur” – which is French for “Litany Against Fear.”

Vocalist Maynard James Keenan is one of rock music’s truly gifted performers and his ever haunting voice sends shivers down your spine as the group works its wicked magic from one track to the next. The first two songs top the ten minute mark. Whereas the next rocking tune “Invincible” reaches twelve minutes in length and features a freaked out guitar solo by Adam Jones. Another instrumental titled “Legion Inoculant” takes the listener deeper into the horrifying landscape of the group’s musical brilliance. “Descending” and “Culling Voices” total twenty three minutes together, pulling you even further into the madness of our New World Order reality. The out of this world sensation instrumental “Chocolate Chip Trip” keeps the momentum going, leading into the final tracks “7empest” and “Mockingbeat.” It’s now wonder the band scored a Grammy award because this is no doubt an overall masterwork.
