Houston, Texas shredder, Marzi Montazeri, has returned in 2017 with “The Uprising” EP, and will definitely blow the doors of your damn barn, no doubt. This dude is simply electrifying on the six strings. Former Judas Priest singer Tim “Ripper” Owens handles the vocal duties and the duo together is absolutely slamming. There is definite PANTERA vibe on this bad boy, and on the title track this sounds probably the closest anyone in metal has sounded to capturing the balls out, meat and potatoes heavy metal riffs of late great Dimebag Darrell Abbott. A lot of fans were worried where Marzi would go after he departed Philip H. Anselmo and The Illegals, but I am happy to report he is kicking ass now on his own.
The eerie intro “11” kicks it all off, followed by the epic “Monster Within”. Track four’s “Without Warning” is a heavy nut kicker too. The next cut “Who Is Alive” is beyond crushing. The final track is a nothing but ‘haunting effects’ like the intro “11”, it’s called “Viento Del Espiritu”. I would love to hear these two masters of heavy music record a full length together next. This is one of the best metal albums of the year, in my opinion. Montazeri has now put himself in the mix of the elite guitarists in rock music, and where he goes next can only be up, because Marzi is 100% the real deal.
