ROCKET: Where were you born and raised?

HORROR: Just outside Copenhagen, Denmark.

ROCKET: Do you recall your first heavy metal concert?

HORROR: I think that must be Iron Maiden with Testament as opening act in Denmark in 1992.

ROCKET: When did you first start playing drums?

HORROR: I started playing drums in school in 1991. In 1992 I got my first drum kit at home.

ROCKET: Who are some of your biggest drumming influences?

Abdunor
TMDbanny

HORROR: Well, there are many great drummers out there, but to name a few: In my younger days, I was listening a lot to Gene Hoglan, Mike Portnoy and Sean Reinert. Then later, I started also listening a lot to drummers like Derek Roddy, Inferno and George Kollias.

ROCKET: How did ABDUNOR first form together as a band?

HORROR: I joined an already existing band called “Dawnfall” back in 1995 which Inferior was already a part of. This was more of a Death Metal band. In 1996 Inferior and myself started a little project on the side in which the style was more towards black metal. It didn’t take long before we decided to focus on this style and so Abdunor was born.

ROCKET: Let’s talk about the new CD called “Apocryphal” by your band. What can you tell us about it and where is the best place for someone to purchase a copy?

Buy Abdunor's New CD!!!

HORROR: Apocryphal is Abdunor’s “new beginning” on the metal scene. It’s a mix of some old material and some newer material. With this album, we are also trying to show the diversity of Abdunor, while keeping a consistency and flow between the different tracks. We tried to make this album one that you can listen to many times and still be entertained and find new things in our music. Our album is available on Itunes, Amazon and Spotify to name a few places.

ROCKET: I understand your new music is “darker, harder and more epic”. What else can you tell me about the songwriting on the album?

HORROR: Yes, we are trying to make our music more dark, hard and epic these days, but we also still like to still throw in some melodic parts. The songwriting is mainly done by Inferior. He writes the lyrics, and also all the music. I do the rhytm (drums). Normally he will make some new guitar riffs, and I will then try and figure out some drums that fit.

ROCKET: Where was album recorded and who produced it?

HORROR: Album was recorded by ourselves in Denmark in our own little studio. The recordings were then sent to Studio Fredman in Sweden, who mixed and mastered the album.

ROCKET: What brand of drums are you playing live and in the studio currently?

HORROR: At home, I have a Roland TD-20KX drumkit for rehearsing (this is great for practicing at home). For live purposes, I will use a full Sonor kit with a mix of many different cymbals. My pedals are Pearl Demon drive.

ROCKET: How did the songwriting process work for ABDUNOR band on “Apocryphal”?

HORROR: A lot of the riffs for Apocryphal was actually initially created a long time ago. We then decided to keep a lot of the old riffs, change them a bit and try to incorporate it into some of our new material. In general when we create new, we always try to record it and then we listen to it many many times, before we decide whether to keep it, change it or skip it. It is also very important that both Inferior and myself are 100% satisfied with the music, otherwise we don’t use it.

ROCKET: Who are some of the current American metal bands that you enjoy?

HORROR: I enjoy bands like Hate Eternal, Origing, Nile and Cynic at the moment.

ROCKET: What would you say is your ultimate goal in the music industry?

HORROR: Kicking ass with Abdunor on a world tour!!!

ROCKET: What are some of the upcoming live shows for ABDUNOR that we need to watch out for?

HORROR: We are currently looking for 2 additional musicians for our band to be able to do the live setup, we would like to do. As soon as that is done, we will definitely be playing live shows again. Stay tuned for upcoming shows!!!

ROCKET: Cool! Where do you see Abdunor band in ten years from now?

HORROR: On a big stage in front of lots of great metal people!!!!

ROCKET: Thanks for rocking this out with me. Best of luck with your music. Any last words for your fans?

HORROR: Thanks to all for supporting this scene. Looking forward to see you all on the road!!
