ROCKET REVIEW: LAMB OF GOD – “VII Sturm und Drang” (CD)

American metal band LAMB OF GOD has released their seventh studio album in 2015 entitled “VII Sturm und Drang”, and they have delivered yet another oustanding effort. Comprised of ten slamming ten cuts, the band gets the shin dig cranking with the absolutely punishing “Still Echoes”, where lead vocalist Randy Blythe’s roaring is at its most vicious sounding in years. Next up is “Erase This” that and it’s even heavier in tone, with Blythe screaming out: “For what it’s worth, it was over before it began!”

The mosh fest continues with my personal favorite on the album “512”, the totally jamming “Embers”, and all out crushing “Footprints”. The momentum does not slow down as track six’s “Overlord” kicks you in the face with its unapologetic brutality, followed by the pummeling “Anthropoid” and “Engage the Fear Machine”. Drummer Chris Adler (who is now pulling double duty with Megadeth) sounds stellar behind the kit, and on the next songs “Anthropoid”, “Engage the Fear Machine”, and “Delusion Pandemic” the band ups the ante by delivering more modern metal greatness. Guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler deliver loads of killer riffs and shredding licks. The album concludes with the rocking cuts “Delusion Pandemic” and “Torches”. Any fan of hard hitting heavy music will want to add “VII Sturm und Drang” to their collection. I’m sure it’s going to find its way onto many ‘best of the year’ lists.
