Arizona’s 2 IN THE CHEST are fronted by vocalist/guitarist Reverend Black Jack McBride. The band is best explained by their bio, which reads: “When you go see a show it’s way more than just the music, it’s like busting open the swinging doors of some eighteenth century saloon, bellying up to the bar, and not only hearing the amazing music but listening to stories from the old west that they tell during the performance. Everything 2 IN THE CHEST does is part of that story. The characters, the clothes, the vibe… all are pieces to the incredible puzzle that this band has put together. From beginning to end their set is a pioneering journey through the past, and everyone from young to not so young leave a 2 IN THE CHEST show with a smile and a never ending memory of the fantastic time they had.”
THE METAL DEN’s Randy “Rocket” Cody has conducted an interview with vocalist/guitarist Reverend Black Jack McBride of 2 IN THE CHEST for his loyal Den Headz around the globe.
ROCKET: Where were you born and raised?
REV: On the Playground is where I spent most of my days… no, but really I was born in a small town in Arizona way before it was even Arizona. If my memory serves me correctly, it was in the year 1849 or was it 1859. Man, I have so much dust in my head I just don’t remember.
ROCKET: Do you recall your first rock concert?
REV: Yes. I do. It was in a saloon called Betty Lou’s in BannacK, Montana back in the 1860s
It was one hell of a hoe down.
ROCKET: I bet y’all were throwing back plenty of whisky shots! Ha! When did you first start playing the electric guitar?
REV: Well I believe it came from my mother, who was pickin bass on the washtub. Then a few years later I picked up the git fiddle and we have been friends ever since. Oh about 1861 I reckon.
ROCKET: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Rev: After being resurrected back in 2006 I came enjoy several music makers. Alice N Chains. Pantera… those guys have some southern groove until that rotten piece of flesh shot Darrell down in cold blood.
ROCKET: No doubt! Let’s talk about your band 2 IN THE CHEST. You are currently looking for new members, correct? Where is the best place for someone to send you an audition tape?
REV: Get a hold of me through Facebook Jack McBride https://www.facebook.com/JACKMCBRIDE I then will send a few live songs as well as one that have been recorded already. They will need to learn those and get back to me as soon as possible. We want to keep this beast of a train rolling. OR email us at firstname.lastname@example.org OR http://2inthechest.net
ROCKET: Are you planning to release some new music in 2016?
REV: Why yes, sir we are. We are completing out full length record as I type this message.
ROCKET: What kind of guitars are you currently playing live and in the studio?
REV: Anyone that knows me, knows that I only perform with St. Christopher A Les Paul brought back from the future to me that ultimately saved my life a couple times back in the 1800s. If you want to know the rest of the story you have to look it up.
ROCKET: What kind of amp rigs?
REV: Burgera amps and Haden Cabs is all I use.
ROCKET: Do you play with any pedal effects?
REV: No I like the clean raw sound of my amp.
ROCKET: Do you have any equipment endorsements?
REV: Endorsements really don’t interest me if someone comes up to me and want to give me free stuff sure I will take it but nothing as of yet.
ROCKET: What is your favorite heavy metal album of 2015?
REV: To be completely honest my friend I don’t have one and I will tell you why. I do not listen to main stream bands they have already made it. I dedicate all my time and energy to the local metal scene here in Arizona. My favorite record out right now is by a band called Black Curtain called Apocalypse Rising. Awesome metal band out of Phoenix Az. My favorite bands in Az are so many that I can’t begin to tell you them all. “DEATHGRIP” “DESTRUCTURED” “94 BLADES” “TWISTED THEOREM” “THROW THE SWITCH” “BLACK CURTAIN” “MURKOCET” “HOUNDS OF TINDALOSE” “EMPIRE OF DESIRE” “BLEED THE FIFTH” and many, many more. Those are just the ones that I can remember off the top of my head.
ROCKET: Killer! Yeah, TMD site definitely promotes both the mainstream metal bands with the underground. I wish I saw more sites talking about these kick ass underground bands that are really doing damage, you know? That’s why you’re even doing this interview with me, right? Because me and TMD know what’s cracking! What is the craziest thing that’s happened to you while performing live on the stage?
REV: The only thing that was crazy at this point was when Velvet’s Pedal unhooked its self from the bass drum. And she was trying to fix it and play the song at the same time. That was some crazy crap right there. Looking at her trying to get that thing attached was funny as hell.
ROCKET: How do you get warmed up before a show?
REV: I am a person that needs to focus. I become the character that I portray on stage and I must be focused to give the Dwellers a great show.
ROCKET: What kind of touring are you planning for next year? Will 2 IN THE CHEST play any festivals or maybe some shows out in Texas?
REV: I am working with Metal world Radio and now you guys. Trying to get a mini tour booked for New Mexico Colorado and Texas. Just getting enough shows to cover the cost of the tour and lost expenses because we will be taking time off work. Touring these days is very expensive and the only ones that really do it are the bands that have rich parents to cover the costs. Doing a go fund me campaign was something I thought about, but with past experience, no one gives to things like that. So I don’t even waste my time. So in the end I am think yes we may do one if we get enough shows that give us a guarantees we would be all over it.
ROCKET: Where do you see yourself in ten years from now?
REV: Well I have been in the music industry since before most of you were even born. So in ten years? Sheet! If the music industry doesn’t take a change for the better, I won’t be any further than I am right now. The youth don’t care about live bands anymore. They would rather pay huge bucks to see some clown spin record’s than to see an actual live band perform. And lemme tell ya partner that is a sad state we live in.
ROCKET: Thanks for rocking this out with me. Best of luck with your music. Any last words for the fans?
REV: Reverend Black Jack McBride Guitar Player Singer for the World’s Only Rustic Outlaw Southern Metal Band 2 IN THE CHEST. Stay true to metal music you awesome metal meat bags. Peace Love & 2 IN THE CHEST.
