DARK ANGEL guitarist Jim Durkin passed away at 58 years old this past Wednesday 03/08. The news was confirmed by his wife Annie Durkin on his Facebook page (seen below), expressing her sadness and love for him. Durkin had been absent from some recent Dark Angel shows and was replaced by Laura Christine, drummer Gene Hoglan‘s wife.
The band had been touring since reuniting a decade ago and was scheduled to perform their album Darkness Descends at three concerts in Los Angeles next month. They had also been working on a new studio album with Durkin and the rest of their current lineup.
In a recent Twitch live stream, Hoglan shared their excitement and dedication to creating an amazing Dark Angel record:
‘He’s been sending over songs, riffs, stuff like that, super exciting. We’re all of the same mindset of making this just the most absolutely kick-ass DARK ANGEL record that we can.”
