It’s finally official, Den Headz. Gus G. is now the new lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE. It’s been unclear for the past several weeks whether or not he was actually going to become a permanent part of Ozz’s lineup, after stepping in to replace Zakk Wylde at Blizzcon. Our friends at Blabbermouth.net have just confirmed it.
Metal Hammer’s new issue features an in depth interview on the whole subject. Here are a couple excerpts from the article, wherein Gus talks about how it all went down.
“I got a message on my MySpace from Blasko, Ozzy’s bass player, asking me what was doing, if was living in America or not and saying that he wanted to talk to me. I never thought he’d want me for something like that. I initially thought that (Playing with Ozzy) maybe he wanted to talk to me about doing a project or something and then he told me that one of Ozzfest’s managers was looking for me. The manager said that they wanted me to fly out to Los Angeles immediately for a show that Ozzy was about to do in Anaheim, California.”
And on taking over Zakk Wylde’s job:
“Zakk is a tremendous guitar player, just like all the guys that have played with Ozzy. In fact, Zakk is my favorite Ozzy guitar player ever and my biggest influence of them all! It’s quite an honor for me to step into his shoes.”
Ozzy recently spoke to LA Times about the recording of his new album:
“It’s still heavy but it’s not all dark. At this stage, I can experiment.”
