Despite a fake news story going around, which purports MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s legendary lead vocalist, Vince Neil, 60, passed away, the truth is he’s not dead. A terrible hoax was started via a website infamous for pulling off ‘death hoaxes’ involving our favorite celebrities. TMD now provides additional information since posting the initial report covering the rumor that was started by Media Mass and began to spread like the plague over the past several days.
TMD is happy to confirm that Vince Neil is alive and well.
“News of singer Vince Neil’s death spread quickly earlier this week causing concern among fans across the world. However the February 2021 report has now been confirmed as a complete hoax and just the latest in a string of fake celebrity death reports. Thankfully, Mötley Crüe lead singer is alive and well.”
There are many other false rumors going around about Vince that need to be cleared up too, including the one bogus story that said he is going to be replaced by the singer of Steel Panther, and that he was fired as a Jenny Craig spokesperson.
Sure, some of you might laugh at those things, but nothing is more insidious than passing around fake news concerning someone’s death, wouldn’t you agree?
Rumors of the singer’s alleged demise gained traction on Tuesday after a ‘R.I.P. Vince Neil’ Facebook page got launched – since deleted – that, believe it or not – attracted nearly one million ‘likes’. Those who read the ‘About’ page were given a believable account of the American singer’s passing:
“At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (February 16, 2021), our beloved singer Vince Neil passed away. Vince Neil was born on February 8, 1961 in Hollywood. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”
On January 17th, 1981, Motley Crüe was formed when Nikki Sixx left his band London and started rehearsing with Tommy Lee and Greg Leon. Bob Deal (Mick Mars) would soon join and Vince Neil was hired on April 1st 1981.
In February of 1992, Mötley Crüe fired Vince Neil after he turned up for rehearsals claiming that he lost his passion for the band. Vince would be replaced by singer John Corabi.
The fact is that Vince Neil is not six feet under. The Crue is not using a body double during rehearsals to cover up his death.
“Where as some trusting fans believed the post, others were immediately skeptical of the report, perhaps learning their lesson from the huge amount of fake death reports emerging about celebrities over recent months. Some pointed out that the news had not been carried on any major American network, indicating that it was a fake report, as the death of a singer of Vince Neil’s stature would be major news across networks.”
A recent poll conducted for the Celebrity Post shows that a large majority (81%) of respondents think those Vince Neil death rumors are not funny anymore.
Happy 40th Anniversary Motley Crue!!!
On Wednesday (February 17) the singer’s reps officially confirmed that Vince Neil is not dead. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet,” they said.
“Some fans have expressed anger at the fake report saying it was reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans of the much loved singer. Others say this shows his extreme popularity across the globe.”
Drummer Tommy Lee said of the band’s recent 40th anniversary milestone: “Happy 40th my dudes…. what a fucking ride hey!?! Like a rollercoaster we been up down and all around this damn world touching hearts and many other parts haha of people all around the globe! Cheers to touching more!!!!”
