AC/DC – Co-Founder Malcolm Young Dead At 64

Malcolm Young, co-founding guitarist for Australian rock legends, AC/DC, has passed away at the age of 64, the band has announced. The cause of death is not yet known, but the guitarist had been battling dementia for several years, which caused him to leave the group in 2014. A statement on the AC/DC website reads as follows:

“Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young.

“Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC. With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band. As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man. He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted. He took great pride in all that he endeavored. His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.

“As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special. He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.

“Malcolm, job well done.”

Malcolm Young was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1953 and moved to Sydney, Australia as a child with his family. It was there that he co-founded AC/DC with his younger brother Angus in 1973. Their early material was produced by another Young brother, George, who himself passed away only last month and achieved some success of his own with The Easybeats. AC/DC went on to sell over 200 million albums worldwide, more than The Rolling Stones, Queen, Eminem and U2.
