Dear James, Lars, Kirk and Robert,
I once respected each of you dudes very much. What Metallica achieved early on as a band is one of the true great rock success stories ever. That is why I am taking the time out of my busy life to type you this heartfelt plea. I admit it’s a last ditch effort, since it’s looking like Lars has already made up his mind about Gaga. I get it. The whole world gets it. He is apeshit for the pop diva’s talents.
Gaga is undoubtedly a very gifted young lady and I must admit I was actually impressed by her singing voice during the Grammys. At least she can hit the high notes. There is a nice range there that would work well in other sub genres of metal music, but more along the lines of melodic or folk metal. I don’t see her being able to add anything to the bulk of Metallica’s heavier, thrash material. Point blank, this woman belongs nowhere near the band when you all are actually out performing live for fans… I am demanding you to stop the madness!
And let’s be real – none of your fans wants you to collaborate on any music together. Nobody woke up the other day going “You know what, I gotta hear Gaga sing in Metallica!”
Don’t get me wrong. I understand why you want to bring her into the band. It’s all about the money! Nearly 118 million people tuned into the her Super Bowl halftime concert on the FOX broadcast network. In addition, Gaga’s performance at NRG Stadium in Houston is the most-viewed content on NFL’s digital platforms, including NFL.com, Twitter, and YouTube. Via these channels, her acclaimed halftime performance racked up more than 150 million unique viewers.
Gaga could take Metallica to another level. Everyone sees you’re ready to sell out to make that happen. I am asking you not to do that. Wasn’t that embarrassing Grammy ‘mic fail’ enough to tell you guys that this needs to be only a one time deal?
Despite all the viewers she brings to the table, and the fact that the woman has got mad skills, I’m still telling you not to work with her one more time at all, not even to film a commercial that pays bag fulls of cash, understand? Stop doing anything with her immediately. Besides, how much more money do you need? You are already filthy rich!!
Stop all of this now. Cliff Burton deserves at least that much, got it?
Remember him? He lost his life for your band… out on the road. Back when you used to play real thrash metal music!
Cliff, we all know full well, would not have ever agreed to doing a Metallica performance – of any kind – with the queen of modern disco music. Are you all fucking completely insane?
I think it’s time to seriously consider retiring Metallica once and for all. You are disrespecting the heritage of your own band, your deceased band member, and the genre of metal music by working with Gaga… again, a DISCO QUEEN!!
Stop before it’s too late to repair the damage.
