Legendary American crossover thrashers SUICIDAL TENDENCIES have released their twelfth studio full length in 2016 entitled “World Gone Mad” via Suicidal Records. Lead vocalist Mike Muir has not slowed down one bit as the years have crept up on him. The slam session kicks off with the first single released off the album “Clap Like Ozzy”, an effective ode to the Prince of Darkness of BLACK SABBATH fame. Right away I could tell the drumming sounded so much more powerful than anything ST has recorded in recent years. The reason it sounds so radical is because the one and only Dave Lombardo (Ex-SLAYER) has joined the ST lineup and this gem rocks so hard it will straight up rattle the teeth in your head.
Up next are the totally jamming cuts “The New Degeneration”, “Living For Life”, and my personal favorite “Get Your Fight On!”. The latter cut starts out slow but then explodes into a fast up-tempo groove that will be sure to please all the old school fans for sure. “You know the world is so fucked up…” sings Muir. The heavy punk vibe is palpable and immediately takes you back to their most successful days when they released the classic album “Lights…Camera…Revolution!” in 1990. For me, “World Gone Mad” – top to bottom – is hands down their best work since that record.
The momentum does not let up at all with next few songs “Happy Never After”, the epic “One Finger Salute”, and the absolutely brilliant “Damage Control”. The guitar shredding on the latter tune by Dean Pleasants is seriously off the charts. Two more new members have been added besides Lombardo, including Jeff Pogan on rhythm guitar. The bass playing is now handled by Ra Díaz and I must admit this is the best bottom end ST has cranked out since Robert Trujillo was in the lineup. It all concludes with the stellar “The Struggle Is Real”, “STill Dying To Live” and “This World”. Any OG ST heads will definitely want to add the slamming “World Gone Mad” to their collection. It’s great music to call all your homeys up and hang out to or even turn up super loud while skateboarding in your neighbor’s empty pool. There is a ton of cussing all throughout so you and your kids have been warned. Bottom line, this is ST throwing it down with a vengeance.
