TMZ is reporting that ex-lead vocalist of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS & VELVET REVOLVER, Scott Weiland, has passed away at the age of 48. According to the report, the talented but troubled singer was found dead on his tour bus in Minnesota with his band Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts … where they were supposed to play the Medina Ballroom last night (Thursday, December 3) but the show was obviously cancelled when band members found Scott deceased on the bus. No cause of death has been revealed yet.
TMD sends out condolences to Scott’s family, friends, bandmates & fans. He will be missed but goes down as one of the greatest rock n roll vocalists that ever lived.
Alt metal rockers STP had a long, rocky relationship with the drug addled singer despite making so much great music together over the years – and Weiland parted ways with the group in 2013 after releasing “Stone Temple Pilots” album in 2010. Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington replaced him and the band released their first studio EP “High Rise” in 2013. Recently it was announced that Bennington departed the band. Fans will always be left wondering if the original lineup would have reunited possibly once again but now sadly that is never going to happen.
In the early 90’s, STP dominated the decade from start to finish, racking up 15 singles on the Billboard Top Ten, winning a “Best Hard Rock Performance” GRAMMY in 1994 for for “Plush,” and having their five albums sell more than 35 million copies worldwide. Of all their peers, STP alone had sustained commercial success, earning greater critical acclaim with each release.
