ROCKET REVIEW: HIRAX – “Immortal Legacy” (CD)

Long running American thrash metal act HIRAX and legendary producer Bill Metoyer (SLAYER, ARMORED SAINT, W.A.S.P., SACRED REICH) connect for some high speed heavy music in the form of the new album entitled Immortal Legacy. The effort is without a doubt the band’s best production to date, offering up plenty of well crafted skull crushers that will make you want to grab your neighbor and start a mosh pit in the backyard. It kicks off with the rampaging “Black Smoke”, which finds lead singer Katon W. De Pena unleashing his trademark vocal fury, followed by “Hellion Rising” and the hard charging “Victims Of The Dead”. Lance Harrison is simply a beast on lead guitar, shredding it up with the best of them as he lights his fretboard up like a roman candle from hell.

The rhythm section is on point, thanks to Steve Harrison on bass and Jorge Iacobellis on drums. These dudes are on par with the most fierce in the game. Next up the listener is treated to the slamming “Thunder Roar, The Conquest, La Boca De La Bestia – The Mouth Of The Beast”, followed by “Earthshaker” and the totally rocking “Tied To The Gallows Pole”, which features some bad ass guitar solos. “Deceiver” really catches your attention and the album’s title track “Immortal Legacy” takes the musical chaos to another level.

My personal favorite “Violence Of Action” simply knocked my dick into the dirt. This is thrash metal at its finest. If the entire album sounded this good it would have surely been given a perfect score. Things slow down a bit on track eleven with a cool little instrumental entitled “Atlantis (Journey To Atlantis)”. Thank God they didn’t throw a lame ballad in like so many other metal bands have been doing lately. HIRAX knows what the fans want… pure, unapologetic thrash. You definitely get more than enough sick riffs and head banging moments on this record. Any fan of the old school and new modern thrash movement needs to add “Immortal Legacy” to their collection.
