American death metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE return in 2012 with a collection of songs that are sure to please the most blood thirsty. The album is entitled Torture, the third consecutive record featuring the current lineup of bassist Alex Webster, drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz with guitarists Rob Barrett and Patrick O’Brien, and vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher.
There is no denying that this group will go down as the biggest name in death metal history. Can they still bring it though? Produced by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL), Torture captures the band at its most mature time ever, arranging more sophisticated songs, and taking their musicianship to an even higher level than before. Yes, earlier albums from the band (Tomb Of The Mutilated, The Bleeding, and Butchered At Birth) will no doubt be pretty much impossible to top – but I feel Torture will be respected for being perhaps their best overall production to date. It sounds absolutely killer.
I have no doubt that – like mine- your face will be ripped off and thrown against the wall with perfectly gruesome cuts such as “Demented Aggression, “Scourge Of Iron”, and “Intestinal Crank”, unleashing one face slasher after the next for new fans to get addicted to. The only complaint I have is that “Corpsegrinder” doesn’t seem to have as powerful of a bottom end to his serial killer growl any longer, but where he lacks in power he makes up for with the sheer fact that the dude is one scary looking sonofabitch that seems he could easily be some unstoppable murderous force himself. So really for me, as long as he is still behind the mic doing his thing…. it is all good.
All in all, with Torture you get tons of heavy riffs, maniacal power, and 100 percent brutality. Yes, it looks like CANNIBAL CORPSE is poised to remain at the top of the death metal game for many more years to come. So now you gotta ask yourself? Are you ready for TORTURE?
