ROCKET REVIEW: RINGWORM – “Scars” (CD)

TMD

Cleveland, Ohio (USA) metallic hardcore act RINGWORM have unleashed the utterly punishing Scars in 2011 via Victory Records and let this reviewer state for the record that these dudes have assembled ten perfectly fierce tracks that are more than just punk-influenced ass-kickers… this shit is just plain rocking. You take what a purist of hardcore expects with what a heavy metal nut like me wants and this band is what you get. From the first track, “Voluntary Human Extinction,” the listener will have their grill kicked in and the brutality will continue to head pummel you on other sick cuts “To The Grave”, “Used Up, Spit Out,” and my personal favorite “Hellbound”. Vocalist Human Furnace sounds more pissed off here than anyone I have ever listened to in music ever. These cats definitely make me want to start moshing in place, so I fully expect everyone else that has heard this record is feeling the same way. Recorded with producer Ben Schigel (Drowning Pool, Walls of Jericho, Chimaira) at Spider studios, the best part of the album is that it’s totally unapologetic, sloppy and rather crude at points, yet totally masterful in how its riffs beguile you and the punk’d up drum attack whips you around like some rag doll child in the pit. Matt Sorg and John Comprix rip it up on the twin guitar attack like never before as drummer Danny Zink locks in for one vicious rendezvous with bassist Mike Lare. I will be keeping my eyes on this band even more than ever, because they are onto something really outstanding with Scars. This album is definitely going to make my top ten list for 2011.
