ROCKET REVIEW: GOD SIZE HATE – “Again We Bleed” (CD)

GOD SIZE HATE’s “Again We Bleed” unexpectedly pounds the metal loyalist into gleeful submission from the very first grimly painted musical note of “Far Into The East” to the pummeling “Red Rabbit” and “Total Division of Man”. This is clearly one of those rare underground metal projects (unattached to a reputable label) that went really well, having been mixed and mastered for GSH by metal legend Alex Perialas, best known for his extensive work during the “golden age” of thrash metal in the mid–80s to early–90s (Overkill, Testament, Anthrax, Vio-lence , S.O.D) at Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, NY. The band features two vocalists, W.J. King and Steve Kremer. Both men are a brutal combination that are melodic as hell: one employed strictly for the Geoff Tate/James Labrie-influenced screaming and the other one ripping it up with the skilled Cookie Monster voice. The truly spellbinding Steve Vai-like guitar work from Jason Rowland is more than compelling all throughout “Again We Bleed”, “Back From Silence” to the major highlights “Fills the Void”, “Another Father Dies” and “Immortal Anguish”, featuring crushing Dave Lombardo-ish drum sounds and Mark LeFevre’s equally powerful and grooving as all hell bass guitar lines. By the time the last two gems “Tearing The Life” and “Surface Of Pain” are fired off, it’s already been noted by this reviewer that God Size Hate is one of those upcoming band’s to take as serious as a heart attack.
