The Metal Den has obtained a rare Randy Rhoads guitar solo that was part of the OZZY show that was recorded live in Cleveland, Ohio on May 11, 1981. However, unlike the majority of songs from that night that were ultimately used for OZZY OSBOURNE’s Tribute album released in 1987, Rhoads’ legendary guitar solo spot in “Suicide Solution” featured on the classic live record is actually taken from another show that took place in Montreal, Quebec on July 28, 1981.
Whatever happened to the original solo from that historic night? Why was it left off the Tribute album? Did Randy Rhoads honestly ever have a bad performance? Upon closer examination, you are going to hear that the lost Rhoads solo itself is nothing short of incredible.
This coming December 6 is Randy’s birthday, and had he lived the ‘forever young’ pioneer of neo-classical metal would be staring down 54 years of age. One thing is for sure, Randy’s six string wizardry will never be forgotten.

Great solo! Wish you could have started it right after Ozzy says “Mr. Randy Rhoads” because it just kind of abruptly comes in here.
The reason why this solo was left off the tribute album is because Ozzy wanted to include a playing error by Randy Rhoads to show that he was human. If you listen carefully to the solo on the tribute album, you’ll hear that mistake as Randy stops playing (at about the 1:15 mark) for a brief moment before continuing on for the rest of the solo. Here on this recording, there is no break. Ozzy said this was the only time he heard Randy “mess up” on the guitar. So he decided to use this recording instead of the original.
Gosh I miss hearing this man play. :o(. There really never has been anyone like him. EVH saying RR was influenced by him – a ha ha ha!!!! i don’t think so. His fingers are liquid silk on the strings. We all have that to look forward to in heaven.
@CJ : I don’t think that is the reason because on the original bootleg (Bats Head Soup) of the Cleveland show Randy makes a mistake at the very beginning of Crazy Train that was ‘fixed’ on tribute.
