MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil continues to prove why he is one of rock’s all-time great vocalists. In 2010, he returns (at 49 – not quite yet 50) with “Tattoos & Tequila”, twelve scorching hot rockers that were recorded in the winter of 2009 with SLAUGHTER bassist/guitarist combo Dana Strum and Jeff Blando, along with the smoldering drum performance of Zoltan Chaney. This is Neil’s first solo studio recording – believe it or not – in fifteen years. 1995’s Carved In Stone was killer in my book and I am here to say that I believe this new album will definitely exceed every listeners expectations. It rocks.
Neil shows off his still ever potent vocal talents by perfectly covering classics from AEROSMITH (“Nobody’s Fault”), SEX PISTOLS (“No Feelings”), CHEAP TRICK (“He’s a Whore”) and SCORPIONS (“Another Piece of Meat”) – throwing in some hot original tracks, such as the totally kicking “Tattoos and Tequila” and “Another Bad Day”, both which were produced by Marti Frederiksen (AEROSMITH, OZZY OSBOURNE, DEF LEPPARD). It’s said that Neil wanted to pay homage on this album to all the rock giants that have influenced him throughout his musical career. Let me just say that I think he hit a home run out of the park. The cover songs were produced by Neil and Jack Blades (DAMN YANKEES, NIGHT RANGER) and truly do need to be heard to be believed. I for one can’t wait to hear more future solo releases from the longtime CRÜE legend.
If you can’t get into Tattoos & Tequila… you need your pulse checked.
