New Jersey (USA) deathcore act SEDNA has self-released Divination, a collection of six rocking songs that impressively showcase an extremely vitriolic-sounding musical act. Starting with the face-grinding opener “Comeuppance”, vocalist Josh Strasko spits out in disgust: “Paradise built a perfect Chevrolet, commercial underneath this mask, lies dormant the insane”. Track two’s “Jihad Joe” delivers the ‘evil as all hell’ goods for this reviewer, with the perfectly melded twin guitar attack of Mark Scully and Jay Polk, successfully blended with the low end rumble of bassist Pat Lewis and some highly-chaotic double bass drumming from Rob Hurley. The song effectively speaks against terrorism against America: “Fascist islamic always hide your face, all your action on a pre-recored tape, fuck the bombs let’s do this with our fists”, speaking volumes as to the level of uncompromising brutality this band brings to the table. The next set of rippers are “Extinction Level Event”, “The Blood Remembers”, and “Working Class Assassin” and definitely don’t slow the album down, which is what true heavy metal fans want from their artists. The final track is “The Endless Dead” and like a cement block to your face, it slams you with its pure power and inventive guitar sounds. Sedna is more than a band to watch out for… they are the future of heavy metal.
