I have been sitting with this rant brewing inside my head for days now, and I just needed
to get the words down finally. I love Dimebag Darrell and PANTERA too much to stand by
and let this sort of thing happen. You would think with all the millions of fans that Dime
has, that maybe someone (other than me!) would have the balls to say or do something
about it!!
We live in a brutal world… in a mostly heartless, thankless society. I know my America that I once
knew is crumbling down around me… and that our freedoms are pretty much gone!
Are we that stupid that we cannot see how robotic (and devoid of feeling) we have all become,
thanks mainly in part to the media, for doing nothing all day and night but report on
all the horrifying things that happen in life? I mean, who really needed to see that poor woman’s
face after her eyes were eating out by that crazed monkey??
We did! It’s been all over the news for the past two days, overtaking all this drama
about the shootings at Fort Hood long enough to take our attention away from that
terrorist event. (Yes, President Barack Hussein Obama. If it looks, sounds and smells like a terrorist..
guess what? IT IS A TERRORIST!)
In closing, here is the actual letter I just wrote today to Fox News program “On The Record”, hosted by Greta Van Susteren, in an attempt to bring focus to this “highly exploitative trash” painting that depicts Dime’s final moments on planet earth… as if it were nothing more than some cartoonish event.
Greta and staff,
Let me first say that I have chosen “On The Record”, out of any other news program
on Television, because I think you are the most fair and skilled news team going today.
I wanted to contact you about this extremely controversial 2005 painting by artist Tom Sanford
that is going back on auction (see that info here) via Phillips de Pury & Company.
Currently, I am the world’s most widely followed heavy metal music journalist since
I began my work in 2005, immediately after my hero, Darrell “Dimebag” Abbott of PANTERA &
DAMAGEPLAN (bands), was shot on stage five times at The Alrosa Villa in Ohio on
December 8th, 2004, while performing with the latter act. I am clearly the most published
of online journalists, having been regularly featured at top metal news dot com’s, such as Metalundergound,
Bravewords and Bloody Knuckles and about fifty others around the planet. Just Google my name for
added sources.
This painting by Mr. Sanford is nothing more than exploitative trash… and I feel
needs to be confronted.
Dimebag Darrell has not only been a great inspiration to me… but to countless millions
of music lovers all over this great world of ours. Here is a recent story I wrote (CLICK HERE) to
reference so you can learn more about what a special guy he truly was.
I created my site The Metal Den as a way of giving back to Dimebag’s great memory
and the music genre that I love over any other.
I think heavy metal gets a “bum rap”, for most people don’t understand the scene
or the beauty of the artists that create it. Since Dime’s death, many people have
come out against metal music and Dimebag himself, saying that “He had it coming to him…”
I think if people could learn more about Dimebag Darrell’s life and achievements
from a humble Texas beginning, that they wouldn’t be so quick to attack him
and his incredible legacy… or the world of heavy metal music.
The irony in all of this new controversy going on surrounding Dimebag Darrell is that on
this coming December 5th, it will mark 5 years that he has been gone.
I would love the opportunity to be interviewed for your program, along with Mr. Sanford,
if you feel this story is something you’d like to feature on your great program.
Sincerely,
Randy “Rocket” Cody
Creator, The Metal Den

I couldn’t agree more. I really hope they decide to interview you and Tom Sanford. Can’t even imagine how or why he would think that painting that is ok. You may as well do a comical painting of the Twin Towers being attacked. It really just makes you sick.
People will never cease to amaze me. They think anyone who likes metal or is in a metal band is some strung out, boozed up, drain on society. Funny thing is that most of us are some of the most intelligent, creative, and nicest people you could meet. Thank you for trying to help that perception. It’s much appreciated.
