The heavy music world has just lost one of its giants. Photographer Jeff Findley – the man responsible for shooting rock photos for just about every rock band imaginable (VAN HALEN, DIO, LYNCH MOB, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, KISS, etc..) from the 80‘s and onward, sadly passed away this past Monday, November 2nd, 2009. The cause of death is not yet known.
Jeff was perhaps most well known for shooting all of the photos for THE METAL DEN.com’s acclaimed
2007 tribute article to late OZZY guitarist Randy Rhoads, which is regularly featured at Blabbermouth.net.
TMD’s creator, rock journalist Randy “Rocket” Cody comments:
“For once, I am at a loss for words. I would like for every single hard rock
music lover that is reading these words to raise your horns in salute to the
world’s greatest rock n roll photographer of them all: Jeff Findley! His work
in rock photography will live on forever and I cannot speak to what an
incredible loss this is for all of us. God speed, brother. Save me a spot at
the ‘Tavern In The Sky’!”

Jeff was first and foremost, a great person. His photography speaks for itself. It’s a shame that so many that do harm to others, remain on this Earth. Yet loving, giving, talented people like Jeff, are taken from us. You were too good for this place Jeff! You deserved better, and we believe you are now better off, away from this crazy world the rest of us live in. So honored to have been a small part of your life. No more pain Jeff…Rest In Peace!
TMD thank you so much for all the kind words. I will pass a link to share with the rest of the family.
Jeff’s brother,

I met Jeff in the late 80s and had spoken with him often through the years. I was out of the country the last few months and, upon return, attempted to reach him. I cannot express how saddened I am to hear that he is no longer here. I will miss his voice, his smile, his humor and his kindness. I will love you forever Jeff!
I was just thinking the other day that I should call Jeff to catch up. We hadn’t spoken since mid 2009. I just found out via a google search that he has passed away. I am in total shock and filled with sadness. Jeff and I never met in person but became friends when he called my company for a Boeing project. We quickly became friends through long conversations over the phone and email. We bonded over so many things especially our love for our Grandmas. I am grateful for those conversations and the sharing of “guess what happend today.”
He was so kind, funny and had a great outlook on life and the world around him. I am so sorry for his family. I am wondering if the family is handling the sale of his pictures. I have only one and would like to purchase more. I can’t find any updates online about the autopsy. If anyone still reads this page feel free to contact me at [email protected].
Rest in peace my friend, rest in a painless peace!
