It’s closing in on 2,000 fans on Facebook that have now joined the effort in calling for a one-off reunion/tribute concert (or a series of US dates) with the surviving members of disbanded Texas groove metal act PANTERA: vocalist Philip H. Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.
TMD has learned today from a source close to Vinnie Paul’s camp that: “If it does happen (the PANTERA reunion event), it will be for only one show.”
Despite the ongoing rumor in the press recently that fans wanted the band’s legendary former lead guitarist, Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was shot and killed on stage in Dec/2004, replaced in a new Pantera band reformation, the Facebook Pantera Reunion Tour Cause wants to make it clear that they do not support the idea of replacing Dime, for nobody could ever truly replace the late great guitar God. Honestly, who would ever suggest a thing like that?
Sodahead.com recently launched a poll asking fans whether or not they do indeed want to see Zakk Wylde play guest guitar for a Pantera reunion event. At this point, fans are 74% in favor of the idea. Go HERE to cast your vote!
According to the comments being left on the Facebook Pantera Reunion Tour Cause profile, a lot of fans feel former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde is the perfect choice for Dime’s guest “Fill-in” guitarist. What do you think? Or should there be more than one guest guitar player? TMD loves the idea of Zakk, along with maybe Kerry King of Slayer, Machine Head’s Phil Demmel, former Kiss lead guitarist Ace Frehley, and say maybe Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains. The possibilities are endless!!

***UPDATE*** A post has been issued on Pantera’s official Facebook stating that The Metal Den site completely fabricated this story, along with supporting a ‘bogus cause’ that somehow now has over 2,000 people that have joined up in under two months. Let it be clear that while this subject matter is certainly a controversial and emotional one, The Metal Den sticks by its sources, with any of the stories that the site has broken over the years. If we learn that our tips or news leads are bogus, we have always been more than willing to retract the story. Until then, TMD believes it is important to provide our readers with the latest breaking Heavy Metal news as it hits our desk… while offering the best ‘story integrity and journalist’s truth’ as possible. Hundreds of other metal news sites have published or ‘quoted’ many TMD stories of this size or larger over the years, respected sites like Blabbermouth.net, Bravewords and Bloody Knuckles and Metalunderground.com… these veteran news sites have all posted TMD’s news since we opened our doors officially in 2007. In the end, a lot of press is being written on the subject of a possible Pantera Reunion… they’ve been talking about it since 2005… at metal news sites all over the world. It is a subject that has been beaten into the ground, for sure… mainly with people suggesting the disrespectful notion that somehow Pantera could indeed reform one day with a new guitarist in place of Dimebag. The Metal Den stands behind the cause that’s being scrutinized in the media today — and all of work that we do for the metal scene, including our ongoing tributes of Pantera and Dimebag as we see fit.

Pantera was the best…vinnie paul is awsome.Dimebag was the greatest….there will never be anyone greater that DIMEBAG. We will always love and remember DIMEBAG,he will be miss forever…
Oh this is bull!No Pantera reunion please! If there is one and its for ONE show whats the point? But thats not what I want to say here.I want to say that its not Pantera with Dimebag so what the hell?Is Vinnie going to put aside his differences with Phil too?Look we still got the music of Pantera and live videos and stuff and the music is what counted. We don’t need a reunion to obtain the music again.IT would hurt to be like AWESOME! A Pantera reunion then you got to face the harsh fact that Dime ain’t going to play.I love Pantera but its not Pantera without Dime.So please this is probably just something to excite us then not ever happen leaving us more sad than before disappointing us.All us Pantera fans got a scar and this would only tear it open some more.
■Andrea right. as a huge pantera fan, I just want a new live cd/dvd package, with never seen stuff. a reunion at first would be cool, but it would tear that wond deeper.
if Vinnie, Rex, and Phil, would make another band, that wasnt pantera, that would be the epic goal, and I believe Dime, would groove to that.
Well back in 2009 February 12 to the 13th (Friday), I was involved in a serious robbery. 3 Black dudes came into Lynwoods Cafe in Randolph, MA. They had guns and shotguns, was slammed in the back of the head numerous times, and after everything was knocked out cold, anyways, I think I have finally forgave them.
Now with the Vinnie Paul, and Dime Bag situation and Phil Anselmo, and Rex Brown. They all need to realize the problem was the murderer who was not on his psych drugs, and who should have never been allowed to enter the military in the first place. His mother buys him a shotgun that would be used to kill Dime (RIP!) My gripe since day 1, is the treatment of military personal that are let go from the service, and are a danger to themselves and society. I recall when Dime was murdered by Eric Gale, there was a cop in NY who was murdered by another returned G.I. with mental issues.
Now what Dime would want is something to help the soldiers coming back from War. My Uncle just passed away recently and he served in the Vietnam War. If it wasn’t for one of his brothers, he would probably have gone off the deep end long ago. What I am getting at is, we need some funds to help return soldiers into a society that cares, not a society that lets the ball drop. We need to do more for our soldiers, they have given us freedom, and no matter where you stand on the issues of war, we need to give these soldiers the help they need. There will be many more in the future like Mr Gales, who I can finally forgive, knowing that mental issues can be dealt with as long as there is a support group helping these people out. All that died that day RIP! And may your demons be driven away…
I will never forget the first time I saw Pantera in Boston, at The Channel for the Cowboys from Hell tour,. 7 people were there including my friend Dana, and I just got my new Volkswagon Corrado 5 speed. Anyways, that was the first show I ever staged dive, and I dived into nobody 2x, *(A few people tried to catch me, but I told them to spread out) and Phil thought I was crazy. Well after alot of slippery nips and beers, and some green stuff, I was doing stuff I prolly would never do again, quite like that.
It better happen! I would fly anywhere in the world to see this once in a lifetime opportunity. Zakk is NOT there to replace dime! Pantera is NOT ever getting back together. No one is trying to “replace” dime. This is just a huge, very important memorial tribute to our dearly missed brother dime. And who better than his best friend Zakk?! None of us knew Dime’s time was up. Otherwise we would have all been there for one last show. Now we have a chance to get fuckin rowdy one last time. We’ll drink, we’ll mosh, we’ll cry, and it will be the happiest day of my life. Lets make this happen!
