Here’s more on that great news from the Star Telegram:

Bank of America will not buy the Ridglea Theater in west Fort Worth, which it had planned to renovate into a branch location.

“After completing our review of the Ridglea Theater site, we have decided that it is not economically feasible,” said Diane Wagner, the bank’s Chicago-based senior vice president of media relations. She declined to discuss the reasons why the bank will not close its deal.

Mark Pitzer, a principal in Dallas-based FixFunding, which owns the property, said he learned of the bank’s decision this morning. He said the bank will now terminate its contract, but declined to comment on the bank’s decision.

Bank of America spent the past several months conducting a review of the property, which opened in 1950 as a single-screen theater. More recently, it has been leased as a rock music venue.

Had it gone through with its deal, the bank said it planned tear down a portion of the theater, along with an adjoining two-story office and retail building, while maintaining the building’s landmark marquee and tower. That sparked a grassroots campaign to save the property.

Ridglea’s ‘Band Night’ on Thursdays opens the stage to full bands. There is also no cover for anyone signing up to perform. Doors still open at 8 and it’s still first come first served on the sign up sheet. The crowd ranges from 30 – 75 people so come early to sign up. Cover is only $3 for spectators so this is a great chance to let friends and family see you play for a low cover.
