TMD uncovers the earliest known live video footage of SLAYER performing the classic track “Black Magic” at Anaheim, California’s “The Woodstock” club back on March 28, 1983… twenty seven years ago. The legendary metal act first started out by playing covers of IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST in different high schools and local clubs around their home base of Huntington Park, California in ’81 — but soon after began to create their own original songs. Several months after this footage was shot, while playing at this very club on the fateful evening of 8/27/1983, the young Slayer luckily grabbed the attention of the most important person in the audience, Brian Slagel, owner of Metal Blade Records.

Heavy metal from that point forward would never be the same.

After watching the explosive live performance of the mighty SLAYER that night, Slagel offered them the opportunity to record an original track “Aggressive Perfector” for the compilation album entitled Metal Massacre III, which created an underground sensation that soon led to them recording their full-length debut, Show No Mercy, released in December 1983.
