Robert Trujillo from the mighty METALLICA jammed on stage with Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela this past Friday night, during their cover of ‘Orion’ at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. The act is known for nimble-fingered classical guitar work and a diverse musical background that fuses traditional flamenco music with heavy metal and rock.
METALLICA’s Trujillo, a well known lover of flamenco-style guitar playing, dropped in for a guest appearance during the performance of the classic metal song at the Riviera, which itself
offers a classic feel, as opposed to being an overdone nightclub.
Rodrigo y Gabriela adds:
“Robert Trujillo from Metallica jammed on stage with Rod Y Gab on Friday night
during ‘Orion’!!”
The pair’s new record, 11:11, released September 2009, features 11 songs dedicated to 11 different musical influences in Rodrigo y Gabriela’s lives — from Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix to the jazz-fusion band Shakti. Alex Skolnick of TESTAMENT guests on the album, as do Strunz & Farah.
A fan name Mike (who attended the event) adds:
“Was at the show! It was awesome. Rob rocked! What an amazing surprise!!”
