The rock n roll circus that is KISS band rolled into Nevada this past Friday for gigs scheduled in the state, despite the fake report of Gene’s death due to plunging his car off a cliff in Malibu and I can’t help but stop to think about what an ‘ultimate con’ Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley continue to pull on their massive following of diehard fans, most of which are blue collar types in their mid-forties. For many years now, KISS band has been pulling off what I believe to be the biggest HOAX in music history. The best part? They have continued to earn millions of dollars doing so. Let me back up a little bit and give you a better idea of where I am going with all of this.
The REAL KISS… not to be confused with FAKE KISS!!
Back in the seventies when KISS was first making their big name, and I was a little kid of maybe 6 or 7 years of age, KISS was made up of four members, beyond Gene and Paul, there were two other dudes named Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. “The Spaceman and “The Catman” were my two favorites in the band without a doubt. Ace’s out of this world lead guitar solos with his smoking guitar and Peter singing the band’s all time best radio hit “Beth”.
That’s not to say that I wasn’t into Gene’s “The Demon” character or whatever the fuck Paul was supposed to be… but I’m telling you my main fascination was with Ace and Peter!
Now all these years later, when kids go to a KISS rock concert many of them don’t even realize that the ‘best’ half of the band is actually made up of ‘stand in imposters’. Tommy Thayer took over on guitar when the KISS reunion at end of the nineties failed and he donned the exact same makeup, outfit and persona of Frehley’s “Spaceman” alter ego. The same thing for Eric Singer on drums. He became essentially Peter Criss, via acting in a role that they both are paid well to do. In fact, as the story goes both Frehley and Criss signed over those rights to Simmons & Stanley for those ‘characters’ at some point. That being said, however, Simmons and Stanley continue to perpetuate what I feel is truly wrong and not the right thing to do.

Yet robot like simpletons who are more obsessed than ever with these swindlers continue to purchase anything with a KISS logo on it and flock to any casino they are playing in the region. Simmons has literally built a near billion dollar empire from the merchandise alone… this includes selling “air guitar strings” for $4 that is just an empty plastic bag. You see, Gene, he needs to rob you of your hard earned money any way he can, right? And everyone just keeps falling for the con… because you think it’s amusing.
Well, I am not amused. Neither are millions of others who just want this band to stop selling a LIE!
How hard is it to change the persona and identity to ‘unique’ ones for Ace and Peter’s replacement? Stop trying to be something up on that stage that you know damn good and well you will not ever be able to replicate for the fans. The legacy of KISS is being tarnished in such a ridiculous manner, and for what? To make more money… boatloads more of it. That is all that Gene and Paul care about.
Maybe the next time you hear new KISS music or attend a show y’all need to ask yourself, “Wait, what am I cheering for? You mean, this is not even the real thing? I paid to watch something else?”
And the most disgraceful thing of it all is that Ace Frehley, who released a covers album last year, and Peter Criss, who is doing his final set of live appearances in 2017, could both step right back into their original costumes and makeup for one last reunion concert right now if given the chance.
Wouldn’t that be cool? Wouldn’t that be the decent thing to do?
Yes, but we’re talking about Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Decency means nothing to them.
