Where in the hell does a reviewer even start when attempting to explain the greatness that is Danish thrash metal act ESSENCE? Clearly the most exciting thing to happen to the underground world of metal in recent memory. It’s as if SLAYER and METALLICA hooked up and birthed a child. This tremendously talented heavy music act could indeed one day be the next big thing, pure and simple. They are such a tight musical unit playing at a level of intensity and technical explosiveness that is rarely heard from anyone these days — and it simply shines through on each and every track offered up in their absolutely head-banging debut entitled Lost In Violence. Lasse Skov is a total standout on vocals and guitar, screaming his way into a frenzy that is very reminiscent of a young James Hetfield...Read More

DOWN vocalist Philip H Anselmo is certainly known for being an all around heavy metal badass… but ‘The Kid’ went beyond for his fans when he performed a number of songs with a bloodied head at the Best Buy Theater in New York City, NY last night, April 28th, after an onstage collision with the guitar of bandmate Pepper Keenan. The accident is said to have gone down during the track “Lifer“, with the legendary former PANTERA singer finishing out the set without tending to the wound. Unique Leader Records welcomes another great band to their arsenal of devastating artists, HIDEOUS DIVINITY. Born in late 2006 as a project from one of Hour Of Penance founding member Enrico Schettino, Hideous Divinity immediately gains attention in the extreme metal underground thanks to the 2007 “Sinful Star Necrolatry” two-track demo, an intriguing mixture of European and American metal extremities. After a long hiatus the band finally finds a stable lineup, just in time to be invited by Sweden’s DM masters Insision in Scandinavia for two festivals in late 2010. In the meantime, new songs are ready: European death/black influences give way to a more mindful, complex yet straight-in-your-face death metal assault in the vein of Nile, Immolation, and Hate.

EARTH CRISIS have now completed work on their latest effort – their 7th overall – which will be titled ‘Neutralize the Threat’ and is scheduled for release on July 12th via Century Media Records.
The band had the following to say: “We are very happy with how ‘Neutralize The Threat’ came out. Musically, it resembles the song structures on ‘To The Death’, but with a ‘Gomorah’s Season Ends’ vibe thrown in. Every song is lyrically inspired by real-life vigilante actions that have taken place around the globe. The topics range from The Black Panther Party to Bernard Goetz and we think it’s an original lyrical concept for the band, while also retaining some subject matter we are known for dealing with in the past...Read More
