SLIPKNOT vocalist Corey Taylor appeared on BBC Radio 1 on September 9th, ahead of the debut of the band’s surprise-released new single “Arsenal“. A first for the masked metal band on several fronts, that song most notably finds the group moving on from their Sid Wilson era, whom they officially fired last month.
It also marks their first full-fledged recording with drummer Eloy Casagrande, and serves as their first output since launching their new label (sic)est Records. The group launched that venture in partnership with Roadrunner Records/Atlantic.
Speaking with host Jack Saunders before the track’s premiere, Taylor said of the track:
“It pummels. I mean it is absolutely a pummeling experience… Like it’s got these great moments of hyperactivity and then complete flex.” He went on to add, “It’s like we’ve got everyone by the hair and we’re just going, ‘Go, Go, Go!’ [mimics banging their head].”
He later stated, “We’re definitely exploring the realm that we’ve kind of been in for a long time, and bringing in elements that we have never done before… People are gonna be like when they hear it, ‘There’s no way that’s Slipknot. There is no actual way that that is Slipknot.’ I’m here to tell you 100%, you’re damn right it is.”
