STATIC-X – Kick Off Reunion Tour (Video)

STATIC-X kicked off its reunion tour Tuesday night (June 18) in Tempe, Arizona. The North American trek, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of STATIC-X‘s platinum-certified “Wisconsin Death Trip” album and pays homage to late STATIC-X frontman Wayne Static, features co-headliner DEVILDRIVER and support from DOPE.

Fan-filmed video footage of the Tempe concert can be seen above.

While the identity of STATIC-X‘s touring singer has not been officially revealed, strong rumors suggest that DOPE frontman Edsel Dope is pulling double duty during the trek and performing with drummer Ken Jay, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and bassist Tony Campos.

VHS – Debut New Music Video

VHS return with their third album, “We’re Gonna Need Some Bigger Riffs”. With tongue still firmly planted in cheek, this Canadian trio is exploring the murky depths with their latest release. Sea monsters, killer whales, and bloodthirsty creatures make up the majority of the lyrical content, while the usual killer in a mask makes a brief appearance, which should be expected of any sequel!

The album shows the band staying true to their diverse and catchy style, taking elements from death metal, punk and even hair metal throughout the album’s 14 tracks.

Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder lends his snarl to the midtempo “Rooting For the Villain”, while Matt Harvey of Exhumed adds an extra layer of sickness to the rocking nod to Humanoids from the Deep, “Death and Carnage Coming in...

DARK FUNERAL – Stage Armor Stolen

Swedish black metal outfit DARK FUNERAL were the victims of a somewhat unusual theft recently. Rather than instruments and personal belongings, the band were instead relieved of some their members’ ornately armored stage attire. The group commented:

“There are few things worse than thieves! We just discovered that 2 if our bags containing our stage outfits were stolen from a car in San Francisco. Window smashed and bags gone. As you know these things are of little use or value for anyone but for us they are invaluable! If you see or hear anything, please let us know! UPDATE! We always travel with 3 Samsonite suitcases including our stage wear. Only two of them were stolen when we had a break in to our car in San Francisco (Lombard/Fransisco area)...

JUNGLE ROT touring drummer Spenser Syphers is now a permanent member of the band.

Frontman Dave Matrise comments: “Spenser has had our back the last 3 years, and having him as a permanent member feels right as we get ready to go into a new decade. He is a monster behind the kit and to have him in this brotherhood will make Jungle Rot more powerful than ever. He was with us for Send Forth Oblivion Part 1, and we cannot wait to return overseas with him crushing once again.”

Syphers had this to say: “Playing for Jungle Rot has brought me to the next level of performance as a musician. It has shown me what it takes to be a part of something so professional yet brutally heavy...

Vocalist and guitarist Benjamin Guerry comments: “‘Cosmicism’ is a literary philosophy developed by H.P. Lovecraft. In summary, this philosophy expresses the fact that humans are totally insignificant in the light of what is happening in the cosmos, events that we can’t understand, issues that are beyond us.
