PANTERA – To Fire Vocalist Phil Anselmo Over “Racist Outburst”, “The Kid” Is A Victim Of Cancel Culture (UPDATED)

Word coming out of PANTERA camp is that vocalist Phil Anselmo is going to be fired by the band over the infamous 2016 Dimebash incident where Anselmo used the Nazi salute on stage and yelled “White Power”. Numerous organizers of concert events that were to feature the reunited PANTERA have canceled the band over the past racist actions of Anselmo, and apparently, more canceled shows are coming, since Anselmo has not been replaced as the singer of PANTERA yet.

Cancel culture refers to the popular practice of withdrawing support for (canceling) public figures and companies after they have done or said something considered objectionable or offensive. Cancel culture is generally discussed as being performed on social media in the form of group shaming.

Names being thrown around to replace Anselmo include Tim “Ripper” Owens, Pat Lachman and Jamey Jasta.

At the end of a performance of Pantera’s classic “Walk,” a seemingly intoxicated Anselmo came out to the front of the crowd, gave a sieg hail to those in attendance, yelled “white power!” on the mic, and retreated backstage. This drew a combination of jeers and laughs from the crowd, and an overarching sense of confusion from everyone else.

Tim Ripper Owens recently sat down with Metal Pilgrim and talked about whether he would be up for the task of taking over Phil Anselmo’s role in Pantera. The singer explained:

“Of course, I would jump on some shows, but there’s other singers that would be better to do it and probably in that type of music — even though I can sing that really well; it’s some of my favorite stuff to sing. And I love Pantera.”

The former Judas Priest singer added that Pantera would most likely select someone from within their ‘inner circle’. He expressed:

“They’re not going to get anybody else to do it, first of all, and if they did, they would pick someone else that was closer to all of them. Because I think they’re really trying to make it the family-and-friends kind of vibe, to do it. So, I think they would pick someone that was in the family there more.”
