Did Sexism Kill Lady Gaga’s Chance To Appear On METALLICA’s New Album?

by Randy “Rocket” Cody

There was a moment in time where it looked like Lars Ulrich was going to back up all of the things he put out in the press, when he began to tempt METALLICA’s fans with the idea of potentially bringing the world’s biggest pop star into the recording studio with the legendary heavy metal band as an official “5th member”. This was not a joke, believe it or not.

Lars Ulrich called Lady Gaga “the quintessential perfect fifth member” of Metallica following the group’s collaboration with her at the Grammy Awards on February 12, 2017.

“Her voice, her attitude, her outlook on everything is so awesome,” Lars said. “[The performance] was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. There’s nothing contrived; she just has this super warm, easy energy.”

So, what happened? Lars did not hold up his end of the deal, letting the fans down, not just Lady Gaga’s fanbase, who got their hopes up but were already fooled back in 2017 on April Fools when TMD launched an epic hoax that purported Gaga was going to indeed record with Lars, James, Kirk and Robert.

The funniest thing is that at the very same time Lars Ulrich was making a false promise to fans who held onto his word that he had already given them that he was not going to treat Gaga like some kind of sex object used for the band’s publicity needs.

It’s not the first time rumors have been rife about the two iconic music stars hooking up.

METALLICA HINT AT SECOND COLLABORATION WITH LADY GAGA

“We already started fast-forwarding to the next chapter when we can do more of this,” Lars confirmed in a Rolling Stone interview. “It’s not one of those ’20 lawyers, strategists and managers trying to force two people from two different worlds to figure out how to spend four minutes together on a national telecast.’ Of any of these undertakings, this is about as organic and authentic as there’s ever been one. We’re just getting started.”

Wait a minute. Back that up.

“Dance Fever” the single that would not be… Lady Gaga’s ‘The White Album’ dream goes up in flames!

Now with Metallica’s announcement of their “72 Seasons” album and no mention of Lady Gaga being part of the production, it has irked a number of people not just within the metal music community, but also obviously it deeply cuts the LGBTQ community who Lady Gaga has become a Queen of Music and Dance among the millions all across the world who are impacted by Gaga’s hypnotic moves and groundbreaking style.

Metallica and Lady Gaga partnered for a blistering performance of “Moth Into Flame” at the Grammy Awards.

“TheMetalDen.com ran a spoof story on April 1 suggesting that Lady Gaga would sing with Metallica in place of James Hetfield on a record titled The White Album – with a fake quote from guitarist Kirk Hammett saying: “Gaga is gonna kill ‘em all in the studio when she sings for us.””

Websites including The Metro (the biggest entertainment site in the UK) and Unreality TV picked up the story and ran with it – despite the fact that the original piece also stated that Hetfield would play drums on the record – and that Lars Ulrich would step up from behind the kit and share vocal duties with the pop sensation.

While millions were certainly fooled by TMD’s hoax, the most lasting damage will come from the failure of Lars Ulrich to keep his word about something that meant a lot to so many people.
