With the 2020 passing of their drummer/vocalist Reed Mullin, Southern metal band CORROSION OF CONFORMITY faced the daunting task of finding a replacement for their upcoming eleventh studio album. That being said, they have some experience in the matter, as they’ve recruited Stanton Moore (of Galactic, etc.) to once again sit behind the kit on the sessions for that new record. Moore previously appeared on the band’s sole album without Mullin: 2005’s “In The Arms Of God“.
John Green, who served as Mullin‘s drum tech, has been filling in at live shows since Mullin‘s passing. Speaking with MetalSucks, the band’s bassist/vocalist Mike Dean commented of Moore‘s return:
“Yeah, man. That’s true; I think we will be working with Stanton again. So, history repeats itself all these years later; Stanton played on ‘In The Arms Of God‘, and I think he’s going to be working with us again for the next record. Having him aboard, I think you need to get a little nerdy to describe it because Stanton has got his own particular way that he wants to play.
He wants to play kick drums in his jazzy way and likes to have the drums heads up front, so it’s more of a traditional-sounding thing. And all of Stanton‘s fills are very second-line sounding, and he has these little phrases that are unique to him.”
Let it be clear, that Moore will not become a permanent member of the band just because he will be recording in the studio with the group.
