PLANET OF THE DEAD – Debut New Music Video

Just little over a year following the release of their auspicious debut album “Fear of a Dead Planet”, New Zealand stoner and doom four-piece band PLANET OF THE DEAD are back with a new full-length album titled “Pilgrims”.

Produced by James Goldsmith at The Surgery, Wellington, NZ and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, Portland, US, “Pilgrims” is set for release on July 23rd and sees Planet of the Dead churning out supermassive and megalithic riffs inspired in creepy tales of classic science fiction and horror. Pre-orders are now available here

The band comments: “Our second album came together around the titular track ‘Pilgrim’, which is based on the book ‘Slaughterhouse 5’ by Kurt Vonnegut. Musically, it plays upon the themes of moments trapped in the amber.
Our basic concept is heavy music played heavy, and we try to keep it simple. There are recurrent themes in our riffs which gives the album a sense of coherence, but we’ve experimented with some new sounds in the latest album which we feel results in a greater sense of dynamism.”

Cvlt Nation recently premiered a music video for the track “Escape From Smiths Grove”, which features scenes from  Abel Ferrara‘s slasher film The Driller Killer

“Our single is a shameless homage to John Carpenter’s 1978 masterpiece, ‘Hallowe’en’. Says the band. “The night he came home. From our perspective, this track evolved massively in the studio; originally we weren’t sure if it was good enough for the album, but to our surprise it ended up being one of our favourite tracks, and is now a staple of our live set.
The video reflects the themes of the subject matter and the genre; we opted to use imagery from Abel Ferrara’s creepy psycho-drama, ‘The Driller Killer’. The band are massive fans of Ferrara’s work and the genre, and Mal is obsessed with the dystopia of 1970s New York; ‘The Driller Killer’ provided superb source material to create the vibe we were looking for.”

Cvlt Nation comments: “Planet of the Dead are able to bring the consistent dirge and relentless riffing that characterizes doom while building suspense and tension that feels like it needs someone to unleash a bloody rage at.”
