METALLICA – Contributing Money Via College Grants

METALLICA have announced their plans for the second year of their ‘Metallica Scholars Initiative‘, which finds them issuing $1.5 million in grants to over a dozen community colleges in the United States. The band launched that program last year via their All Within My Hands organization, donating $1,000,000 in grants.

According to the band’s camp, last year’s initiative ‘resulted in more than 700 first-wave Metallica Scholars with an overall 80-90% program completion rate, and a 93% job placement for those who completed their certifications/studies!’

Further details, including this year’s partners and participating colleges, can be found here.

“American quartet Metallica were one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the ’80s and ’90s, inspiring generations of rockers with their early thrash and later hard rock sounds before settling into their roles as a popular legacy act in the 2000s. Responsible for bringing the metal genre back to earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rock star games of metal musicians during the mid-’80s pop-metal renaissance.” – All Music
