Long standing thrash metal act Slayer has chosen “World Painted Blood as the title of its upcoming CD, which is tentatively due in late summer via American Recordings/Columbia Records. The forthcoming album is being produced by Greg Fidelman and will include the song “Psychopathy Red,” which was sold on limited edition seven-inch vinyl on April 18 in honor of Record Store Day. The band will reportedly film a video for an undisclosed track on July 27. The album came together pretty quickly, as Slayer wrote much of the material on the fly while they were in the studio in February.
“If Christ Illusion is like Reign In Blood, this one would be South Of Heaven or Seasons In The Abyss. It’s more surgical, because Greg, our producer, is anal about perfection,” said Kerry King in a video interview with ShockHound. “When we came in [to the studio] we probably had five and a half tunes done. Now we have 10. I would teach a song to [drummer] Dave [Lombardo], we’d get it recorded, and we’d move on to the next one. That’s how quickly we did stuff. It was very different for us to make stuff up in the studio, learn it, and have Dave play it on the spot.”
Prior to the new album release, Slayer will play a headline show on June 22 in Spokane, WA before heading north of the border for the Canadian Carnage tour with Megadeth, Machine Head and Suicide Silence. The four-show run goes from June 24 to 29 and it will be the first time Slayer and Megadeth have played together in more than 15 years. They will each close two of the four shows. And then, of course, Slayer will co-headline the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, which is set to kick off July 10 in Sacramento, with Marilyn Manson, Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine, All That Remains and many others.
