OLD MAN GLOOM have wrapped the first half of their new album, having recorded it with producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Isis) this past week. An additional session will take place later in the summer with Converge‘s Kurt Ballou behind the boards at his GodCity Studio in Salem, MA to finish recording the album.
The outing is the band’s first since the 2018 passing of bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield. Scofield‘s Cave In bandmate Stephen Brodsky has since been recruited to replace him in the group. As the band state below, the album will include a song that Caleb worked on years back.
“The travel day away from my Gloom family is always tough, but today feels very bittersweet. We had an amazing week with Matt Bayles recording half of our new record, including a song Caleb and I wrote many many years ago and never finished.
It still amazes me that 20 years on we still find so much joy in each other’s company, and we still laugh out loud with excitement at the music that comes out of us. Although Steve and Matt are new to the gloom fold, the comfort and output was instantaneous, and we are all working to honor Caleb in everything we do.
Not having Nate there was tough, and very sad, but that’s adulthood. We’ll be in God City with him and Kurt later in the summer to finish this thing, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. There are more surprises to come.
All the love in the world to my brothers in Gloom, and all of you! #calebscofield”
