Savannah, Georgia metal/rock outfit BARONES has completed basic tracking for their next album and follow-up to 2015’s Purple.
In a new video interview with Heavy, frontman John Baizley revealed that the new album is “mostly recorded”:
“[The new album] is mostly recorded, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still have a ton of work to do on it. So it’s back from this [European] tour, straight back to work – in fact, we’re doing a little bit of work whilst on tour… We’re really just racing to the finish line trying to get the record out so we can start introducing new songs to the setlist.”
When asked if the new record would be out this year, Baizley didn’t respond verbally, but crossed his fingers.
Baroness play an eclectic brand of heavy metal, embracing the ferocity and sharp technique of new-millennium metal but with melodic accents and intelligent guitar work that suggest the influence of indie rock and post-punk bands. The four members of Baroness — John Baizley on guitar and vocals, Brian Blickle on guitar, Summer Welch on bass, and Allen Blickle on drums — are all originally from Lexington, Virginia, but they pulled up stakes and relocated to Savannah, Georgia, when they formed the band in mid-2003. Baroness made their recording debut in 2005 with First, a three-song EP released through Savannah-based indie label Hyperrealist Records. A second EP from Baroness, simply called Second, appeared in stores later the same year.
