Following three years of little activity, Swiss grindcore outfit MUMAKIL has officially called it quits. The band has issued this statement:
“Wish we could start the year with better news but unfortunately it is time to announce that the beast is no more. Mumakil is dead. Let’s just say that the momentum is long gone. We have all moved on to new horizons. Thank you for showing up over all those years, thank you for the support, the headbangs and of course the hangovers! You are family. Grind on.”
The band call their music “blastcore.”
Mumakil (pronounced “moom-a-keel”) is taken from the Lord of the Rings and is of the Speech of Men of the East, allies of Sauron. It’s a plural word for the oliphaunts: gigantic, multi-tusked elephant-like behemoths which struck fear into the hearts of those they faced. They were used as living siege engines in the battle of the Pelennor Fields.
