It was rumored that LED ZEPPELIN’s Jimmy Page toyed around with the idea of inviting late SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell to replace Robert Plant so that fans could enjoy old Led Zep tunes performed live once again, since Plant does not want to take part in another reunion. Although this story has yet to be verified, we all know that with the tragic passing of Cornell on May 18th in Detroit that this potential union of rock n roll legends will never happen now.
TMD shares a mashup mixed by engineer Randy “Rocket” Cody that crosses the classic rocker “Whole Lotta Love” with the all-time epic “Rusty Cage”.
Rocket comments:
“Chris, like all of us, simply loved LED ZEPPELIN. I think this mashup turned out great. It shows just how massive his voice would have sounded had Chris indeed fronted a reunited Led Zep. A couple years back Chris had the good fortune to be able to sit down with guitarist Jimmy Page for an interview presented by Guitar World. Make sure and check that out below after you listen to the mashup! This one goes out to all of Chris Cornell’s biggest fans who I know are still in shock over his death. No matter what, Chris is free from his rusty cage now and riding a pack of dogs loud and proud on another plane of existence. His incredible voice lives on forever.”
In Episode 1 of this fascinating interview, Jimmy Page discusses his early years & musical upbringing (based on pictures taken from his latest book, Jimmy Page by Jimmy Page) with Chris Cornell in front of a live audience at the Ace Hotel Theater in Los Angeles.
