MÖTLEY CRÜE – “The Dirt” Biopic Opts For ‘No Name’ Actors

It was recently announced that Netflix is now developing MÖTLEY CRÜE’s long awaited biopic, which is based upon the bestselling autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, penned by band members Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Nikki Sixx, along with author Neil Strauss.

The biopic, which was previously being developed by Paramount Pictures and Focus Features, will detail the full story of CRÜE’s excess with drugs, high-heeled hookers, makeup, hairspray and celebrity love affairs. It is being written by Rich Wilkes (Airheads, xXx) and Tom Kapinos (Californication), while Jeff Tremaine (Jackass) is set to direct. Band members Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Nikki Sixx are also on board as co-producers.

No official release date has been confirmed, nor does anyone know who is going to actually star as the the rockers.

The writer penning the script for the movie adaptation of Motley Crue memoir “The Dirt” originally called for Jared Leto to play lead vocalist Vince Neil in the film.

“Really? But you’re casting NO Names, you say?”

In a prior interview with MTV, “The Dirt” co-writer Neil Strauss revealed screenwriter Rich Wilkes came up with his wish list of stars, who he’d like to see as the rockers in the movie.

Strauss said, “He told me who he’d love to see in the film. Here’s who he sees: Brad Pitt as David Lee Roth, Jared Leto as Vince Neil, Jack Black as Ozzy Osbourne. … Justin Timberlake as their first manager, Sam Rockwell as Mick Mars, Ashton Kutcher or Russell Brand as Tommy Lee. He’s got it all thought out. That would be amazing.”

It was also long believed that Johnny Knoxville was going to play bassist Nikki Sixx.

Even Sixx himself knew the crazy JACKASS star was the right man to portray him, when he caught Knoxville urinating on a film boss’ luxury car during an earlier production meeting.

He said,”I feel pretty comfortable thinking about him doing it. He has the right attitude.”

MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil spoke with Las Vegas Magazine about the “The Dirt” movie, and when asked how it struck him that he would be seeing an actor playing him on screen, Vince said: “That’s gonna be strange. It’s funny, I saw the table read of the last script. They have these different actors playing each person, and even just the table read of the script was weird when the Vince guy was talking. [Laughs] It wasn’t the guy that’s gonna play me, but it was just kind of weird hearing somebody say your words. It’s a bit of a trip.”

It has been confirmed now, according to drummer Tommy Lee, that the film will not include any big stars acting as the CRÜE members.

“We’re going with all unknowns,” he said. “I think that’s crucial here, too. Getting known actors would not do anybody or the film or the band or any of that stuff justice. I think it would be watching a well-known actor play Vince or myself or Nikki or Mick [Mars] would be weird, because all of those other movies they’ve done would be attached to that character, and it would be real hard to remove those. There’s a lot of up-and-coming young actors that are fucking amazing, actually.”
