PANTERA – “Cowboys From Hell” Bootleg With ZAKK WYLDE

TMD shares a PANTERA live audio bootleg. This soundboard recording comes from a date off the Ozzfest 2000 American tour in East Troy, Wisconsin on August 6, 2000 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre. The legendary groove metal band would continue to tour until August 26, 2001, when they played their last show ever in Yokohama, Japan. Listen to the awesome recording of the song “Cowboys From Hell” performed with Zakk Wylde below!

Music journalist Tony Bonyata reviewed the classic concert:

“Although Pantera’s albums often tend to get bogged down in their own heaviness, as live performers there’s no one in the metal realm that can hold a candle to them. Vocalist Phil Anselmo, with the long hair and beard of producer Rick Rubin, growled and spat venom at the crowd as guitarist Dimebag Darrell, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul churned through heavy dirges that turned from speed metal riffs to thrashy power chords on a dime. In fact, their odd timings and drastic structures make these guys the most interesting band in their genre.”

When asked if there were any bands that really impressed him on this tour and how everyone is getting along with one another, Pantera’s bassist Rex Brown explained: “I wouldn’t want to take one band and put it out there. I’ve been trying to watch all the bands, but some of them go on at ten o’clock in the morning, so it’s kinda hard for me, you know, when I don’t go to bed ’till about seven (AM) or so. I gotta get some rest. But I’m making a point to see every band out here. There’s a lot of camaraderie between the bands. It’s a big family kinda deal.” Brown continued, “What our fans should expect from this show is blood, sweat and a bunch of beers.”

In recent years, Pantera’s loyal fans have called for a special reunion event with the surviving members and Zakk Wylde. It would really be a great way to honor their fallen bandmate. Vinnie, Rex and Phil have still yet to share the stage together in Dime’s honor. Let’s hope that bullshit changes soon!

Several years back Dime’s brother told KEGL radio station in Fort Worth, Texas that if indeed PANTERA does reunite to play a live show again that Zakk Wylde would definitely fill in on guitar for Dimebag. Although Vinnie in 2012 reportedly walked away from a large offer to reunite the surviving members.
