As preposterous as that headline sounds, the truth is METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich has been going around talking about a potential future collaboration with the international pop superstar. What does that mean exactly? Will the biggest metal band ever do something along the lines of what they did when they released the panned collaborative album entitled LuLu with late singer-songwriter Lou Reed in 2011?
Will they call it GuGu? Or do they have something even bigger planned for us all?
Since the 2017 Grammy performance with Lady Gaga, which it’s clear to see was a total PR disaster, even if they did plan the whole ‘mic fail’ to draw publicity to their name as they prepare to head out on the road soon, longtime fans online are voicing their opinions of absolute detest and hatred. That is what makes any continued collaboration of any kind with this woman a serious career hazard. Anyone following closely and reading into what Lars is saying to the press clearly sees this whole silly thing has now begun to take on a life of its own and even lead one down the road to the idea of (gasp) Lady Gaga making history by possibly joining the band as an official member.
“Listen, I knew this was going to work. I mean, Gaga is a metal chick at heart.”
That statement comes from a recent interview Ulrich did with A.V.Club. “There was no way this was not going to work. It was totally in her DNA. It was totally in her wheelhouse. This was not not going to work. The only question was at what level it was going to work.”
That is what troubles so many fans, Lars. What level are you planning on taking this to, bro?
In a post-Grammy awards interview with Rolling Stone, Ulrich went one step further (actually a huge jump) by stating for the record that Gaga is the “quintessential fifth member” of his band now. Say what?
“Her voice, her attitude, her outlook on everything is so awesome,” he told the magazine. “It was so effortless and organic and she just has the spirit of hard rock and metal flowing through her veins. It comes really easy for her. There’s nothing contrived; she just has this super warm, easy energy.”
“As you spend 72 hours with somebody, and there’s this connection and this intimacy, part of it is that maybe you don’t want it to end.” – Lars Ulrich
Let us all hope and pray that this is all some kind of sick joke on the band’s part. As cruel as that would be, nothing would be worse than Lady Gaga actually joining the band. If they want to do a stupid disco/metal collaboration knock yourselves out. But if you actually make her an official member of your band, Cliff Burton will roll over in his grave… and your legendary group will have officially sold out.
