Jon Leon of WHITE WIZZARD has issued a thank you letter to fans and update on the impending album release:
“In the winter of 2013 I was massively depressed and ready to quit music all together. I did not even pick up a guitar, and was immersed in a haze of self doubt and escapism. I was certain that I would never do another true White Wizzard album.
“I did have a song I had written at the end of our Ill fated final tour that I wanted to record to channel out some of that final musical energy I am infected with that inspires these songs….it wouldn’t leave me.
“I always write our vocal melodies along with the lyrics and decided to sing this one for no reason other than just to get it out of me. I had no interest in working with another singer. The result was a song called marathon of dreams. It turned out pretty cool and I think it was an important thing for me to do at that time. I knew many would slag it off but I did not care ….fuck critics! I thought I did a pretty good job.
“I felt that would be the end of White Wizzard…kind of a final goodbye from its founder / songwriter. I decided to start embarking on a solo acoustic project aeons from anything WW. However over time songs just inevitable kept coming and getting better and better. They were unquestionably WW songs. I just could not escape this little demon I am possessed with that just channels these words and this music.
“It became increasingly clear that I had something extra special here. I felt I had an album of material that was on a whole next level plane. I also started to get out of depression and self doubt with regards to the band and feeling a longing and growing desire to fight back and started to see an inevitable passion to see this album come to fruition.
“At this point I started to reconnect to the guy that was there by my side at the beginning when I started this crazy journey, James J LaRue. With no disrespect to other lead players that have been in WW-He was my favorite and I respect his talents immensely. I had written some side material and we collaborated on a little song I had wrote and called it Octane Gypsy. I thought it was kind of cool. It was just for fun.
“We then decided to do a video and release another WW song with me on vocals while I pondered what to do with this album I had in me. It was around this time that I felt we needed to reach out to Wyatt Anderson. Wyatt has always been my fave singer in WW by FAR and I knew it was foolish of me to try to do it. Though I write all the vocal melodies and it all comes out of me, it was the magic of Wyatt interpreting those melodies and making them his own that really was a big part of the magic of what is the ‘best’ White Wizzard.
“Every time I played the songs back in my head, I heard Wyatts voice. Every time I recorded my vocals I heard Wyatt. So we reconnected and found a desire to try and give this a 3rd go… We launched the kick starter and YOU helped make this happen, for which I am humbled and grateful.
“Those of you that love our music so much that you would rise above some of the insane bullshit that has been said and written about me and this band truly touched me and inspired me. We have just finished basic tracking and vocal tracking and let me just say this. Everything is magic with this album.
“Wyatt has taken and interpreted what I have written along with producer Ralph Pathan. and created a masterpiece of vocal melodies. I already knew I had something special here but they just hit it out of the park and made something great and special even better.
“Wyatt sings what I write perfectly. When the 3 of us come together, Ralph engineering, Wyatt singing and me writing and playing the foundation…magic happens and it’s clear we have ascended to a higher plane in EVERY aspect. James J LaRue is crafting masterful leads that are blowing my mind and moving me….he deserves to be more well appreciated as a lead guitar player.
“I have laid down my best bass guitar and rhythm guitar work ever…all on early 80s Hamer guitars ….hell yeah baby. As James keeps finishing leads and we add a few final overdubs this will all be mixed in January. I have never felt like this during raw tracking and listen back. This special album is finding ways to just keep getting better and I am excited to hear the final results.
“Wyatt has expressed an interest to do live shows and we hope to get an agent and manager for 2017. We’ll see how it all plays out, but thank you to all the fans for helping keep me going. We hope you love the new album.”
