Late great guitar wizard Randy Rhoads (Ozzy, Quiet Riot) would have turned 59 years old today. Undoubtedly, the moment after he was killed in a tragic plane crash on March 19, 1982, Randy became a rock music legend. His riffs and uncanny soloing impacted the heavy metal world in such an epic manner that many critics indeed argue that Randy Rhoads at 25 years old was the greatest rock n roll guitarist that ever lived. He possessed a deep musical education and was worlds ahead of his contemporaries in the ultimate language of the guitar and execution of it, not to mention Randy taught hundreds of kids thanks to the influence his mother Delores had on him, for she herself operated the Musonia School of Music in North Hollywood, California (until her death in 2015). There are more people playing the guitar today because of Randy than Eddie Van Halen, Dimebag or even Jimi Hendrix, and if you don’t believe that than you really should start to ask around. No other guitar player has as many fan sites online than Randy Rhoads and if you listen closely “Crazy Train” is used in more commercials and sports events than any other rock guitar riff created by far.

When you talk about pure, God-given talent, plus an ability to communicate & spread that love for playing that was so incredibly infectious to literally millions of young boys & girls across earth, may of whom still play the guitar daily at this very moment despite not being an actual professional – only one dude and one dude alone comes to mind instantly. What does that tell us as human beings? It speaks to the true level of unparalleled greatness that was Randy Rhoads!

TMD has compiled some of our favorite ‘Randy’ quotes that help us better understand the man & the impact he had on people who came in touch with his incredible six string talents:

“So Randy came in, five foot fucking two and so skinny, I thought he was a fairy. When he played my brain went, ‘Either this is the greatest gear ever or this guy really is the best guitarist in the world.’” – Ozzy Osbourne

“The first time I heard ‘Crazy Train’… that song just busted me in the ass.” – Dimebag

“I’m not just saying it because he was my son – but I analyze it as a musician, and having heard many players… Randy had such a live, inspiring sound!” – Delores Rhoads

“I’ve performed with a lot of guitarists, including Gary Moore, Pat Travers and Pat Thrall, and there is no comparing them to Randy at all. In every respect, Randy was by far the better musician I ever worked with and probably ever will.” — Tommy Aldridge

“All Randy ever wanted to do was play the guitar.” – Kelle Rhoads

“I always jammed with friends, always taught. I always played in my bedroom. It also came from teaching. I taught 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. Every half hour a different student.” – Randy Rhoads
